Not Sooo Eggs-cellent
I feel that our group followed Steps 1 throught 3 of the Planning Process successfully. We knew the goal of the project, which was to create some device that would protect the egg from breaking after being thrown 10 feet off the group (Step one..check). We knew what supplies/tools we had to work with --2 feet of tape and 8 plastic straws (Step two..check). We created different plans, or alternatives as to how we were going to contruct this egg protector and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative (Step three..check). After step three, I felt that my team was not so successful. As for step four our group did unaminously choose a plan and went for it---BUT we did not assign any specific roles for any of our team memebers. The only thing we did assign was for Kristen to drop the egg since she was the shortest haha. As for step five, we did not know how we would've been able to save our egg (or revise our plan), after seeing everybody elses plan in the class turn out to be unsuccessful as well. Even though our team was not successful in accomplishing our goal, I still feel we had excellent teamwork and great communication--which I feel is vital in order to strategically plan our goal.

I definitely agree with you Maggie. I think the purpose of this project was not the end result, but the means to the end result. It gave us a chance to work with other people and to really just take in what working with a group of people is like.
ReplyDeleteIn business, we will be required to work with others and this gave us a real opportunity to engage in group activity. Though no one was successful in protecting the egg, the project was a success because it gave us a chance to take a break from the independent attitudes and really just listen to other people.
Well, in this experiment, I think it is hard to follow the 5 steps systematically. When I was thinking about how to build the protector, I also thought about the scenarios. Step 3 and 4 should be tied together to think about. One important think is when a protector fails in step 4, some information should come out and brings us to step 2 and build another one.
ReplyDeleteIt is easy to talk but hard to do.
All lost 5 points still means all got 5 points, right ? :)
I feel that overall even though the whole class failed in this attempt, we all did get a sense of management and team work.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you and everyone else about the importance of team work... Most careers today will require some sort of team collabaration and i think this assingment was an excellent way for us to work with each other... We all failed but the point is we did our best together to decide on one decision on how to build the Unbreakable egg...
ReplyDeleteMy team just like yours had problem with achieving all of the planning steps. It seems like no matter what step you will miss on the way to the goal we won’t succeed or not succeed in full. To make sure that we will get to where we want to be i think we should plan before and evaluate after rather than realizing process after.
ReplyDeletecool tittle... i think we did have specific roles that came up on the go, the problem was that there were more people than roles.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Our group had the same flaw, as we did not actually plan out our implementation of our plan well. If everyone did focus on planning not just the design of the "protector", but actually who was going to do what to assemble it, some groups would have been successful. But I do agree with you last comment as well, and I did have a good time with this activity.
