Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...
First of all let me start of by saying that I've never witnessed such chaos in a classroom environment, as I did that day. Anywho, the method I personally chose during this class exercise was Collaboration. I felt that it wouldn't be fair to the class as a whole if just one person would just give their opinion and thats it! the decision is made for the class. I felt that what we did, which was breaking up into small groups and everbody voicing their opinion...and then each group sharing their idea to the whole class was effective. But of course, it wasn't that easy. There were some agressive people who were "supposedly" voicing the opinion of their groups, but in reality seemed as if they just wanted everyone to go along with their idea and that was that! An alternative method that I should've used was to be a bit more assertive but in a more compromising manner. I should've opened my mouth and also voiced the other opinions of the other groups whose voice wasn't heard due to some agressive people that were trying to take "charge". But overall, the class as a whole came to a good conclusion, one that I feel everybody would profit from in the end---but let me just say it was a very stressful experience!

I agree. In the class, many students just shouted out. It just made the chaos more chaotic. If we can divide into small groups like what we did last egg-protector experiment. But it was funny experience. And this is really creative.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the splitting up of the class into groups was a good idea because there are at times where ideas will overlap between the groups which would of been a lot easier for the whole class to choose a compromise.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been difficult to come to a decision if we didn't divide and conquor the situation. What I experience that day was unbeleivable collaboration amongst a group of approximately eighty students agreeing on issue that affect each and everyone in a unique way. In regardly of the benefits from the decision that was made I strongly believe that it will benefit everyone. This is what make this decision so special. The process as fierce but it thought us a value lesson of compromise, accomodation and collaboration to get the best decision on matters that affect everyone. In the end it for the good of most if not all who were there.
ReplyDeleteAll the people in front had in big part their own business in mind by going there - of course. And I will give you that some were aggressive in communicating the ideas, yet when we try to come to the conclusion which would be best for all of us. Nobody stopped you from raising your concerns, but yes at this same point it seem like people who are louder had most to say. When i was at the front desk i tried to ask question so people like you that didn’t want to yell over anybody would have a chance to talk as well, but unfortunately idea wasn’t picked by the group and only partly succeed giving just few ideas on the board. I hope next time you will say what you have to say, don't let stress get to you, in class or outside; and most important don't let people walk allover you! :)
